Presenter Name: Kelly Vikstrom - YA Librarian at Enoch Pratt Free Library and YALSA trainer
Title of Program: What Do I Do with these Crazy Teens?
Date of program: 7.18.08
Brief Program Description: In a three hour program, Kelly covered teen brain development, followed by participatory exercises and discussion of teen behaviors and the ‘whys’ behind them. Speaker discussed strategies for dealing with problem behaviors and keeping cool, including positive reinforcement, programming and teen participation
Presenter Contact Information: Kelly was at Enoch Pratt Free Library but is now at the Friends School of Baltimore: kvikstrom@friendsbalt.org; 410-649-3200
Host Name and Contact Information: Mary Fellows, Upper Hudson Library System, mary@uhls.lib.ny.us; 518-437-9880 ext. 228
Fee paid: $300, plus transportation from Baltimore, food and one night's hotel
Evaluation: Kelly did what she said she would do and did it very well. She's a good presenter and people liked her. Larger libraries were especially pleased at the teen behavior ideas. Some of the smaller ones expected more actual programming help and were therefore disappointed.

The program was a big success. The YA librarians definitely came away energized and enthusiastic about punching up their flyers. I was also able to incorporate many of the suggestions and ideas that Aviva had in my own flyers to the libraries.
